Most stand-alone dental plans are PPOs or HMOs. A dental PPO pays toward any licensed dentist but pays more in-network; a dental HMO usually costs less but only pays its own network dentists. For a real reference point, the top tier of SecureDental PLUS was quoted at $44.63 a month for one adult in Texas in August 2026, before a $7.95 monthly association fee and $10 one-time fee that apply where the plan is issued through its sponsoring association. Lower tiers cost less, age doesn’t change the price, and state does.
Self-employed? Dental premiums generally go into the self-employed health insurance deduction on Schedule 1, with the same limits as health premiums: no more than the business’s net profit, no months you were eligible for an employer-subsidized plan, and no reduction in self-employment tax.
