Dental Coverage in Union County
Union County is one of Florida's smallest counties, with a population largely connected to agriculture and a state correctional facility near Lake Butler — many residents buy dental coverage on their own.
Adult dental care isn’t an essential health benefit under the ACA, so a health plan in Florida doesn’t have to include it. Of the 72 health plans sold in Union County for 2026, from Ambetter Health, AvMed, Florida Blue (BlueCross BlueShield FL) and one other, none is required to include adult dental coverage.
Finding a Dentist in Union County
No website can reliably tell you which dentists in Union County take a particular plan. Offices join and leave networks, so search the plan’s provider directory by the dentist’s name and ZIP code, then call the office to confirm.
Most stand-alone dental plans are PPOs or HMOs. A dental PPO pays toward any licensed dentist but pays more in-network; a dental HMO usually costs less but only pays its own network dentists. If you want to keep a dentist you already see in Union County, a PPO that includes the office is normally the better fit.
Understanding Your Dental Benefits in Florida
To put numbers on it, SecureDental PLUS, a plan Daniel places, pays basic care at 60% to 80% and major care at up to 70% depending on the tier, up to a yearly maximum of $1,000 to $2,000, and can be issued on the Careington, DenteMax or National Options PPO 30 network. The dental insurance guide sets out each tier.
If you already need a crown, the waiting period matters more than the premium. HealthCare.gov notes that separate dental plans can have waiting periods for adults, and SecureDental PLUS, for example, waits 12 months for major care and 1 month for basic care.
Serious dental emergencies, such as spreading infection or a broken jaw, are usually treated in a hospital and billed to health insurance rather than the dental plan. The only hospital with emergency services that Medicare lists in Union County is Lake Butler Hospital, so check that your health plan includes it. One of the county’s hospitals is a critical access hospital, the small rural facilities Medicare designates to keep emergency care close.
Your Enrollment Options in Union County
Buying dental through HealthCare.gov means buying a health plan in the same application, so the choice in Union County starts with its 72 health plans from Ambetter Health, AvMed and 2 others. Off the Marketplace, a stand-alone dental plan isn’t tied to Open Enrollment at all. Put your ZIP code in the form below and Daniel will pull the dental plans sold at that address.
SecureDental PLUS pricing is set by tier, network and state, not age: the Premium tier on the National Options PPO 30 network came to $44.63 a month for one adult in a Texas quote in August 2026. Add a $7.95 monthly association fee and a $10 one-time fee where the plan is issued through its sponsoring association.
Self-employed? Dental premiums generally go into the self-employed health insurance deduction on Schedule 1, with the same limits as health premiums: no more than the business’s net profit, no months you were eligible for an employer-subsidized plan, and no reduction in self-employment tax. Health premiums usually dominate it; in Union County a 40-year-old’s 2026 benchmark Silver plan is $950 a month before any tax credit.
Stand-alone dental plans are excepted benefits under federal law, so they don’t count as minimum essential coverage and never stand in for a health plan.
