Dental Coverage in Washington County
Washington County anchors St. George's booming retirement and outdoor recreation community in Utah's Dixie — a rapidly growing retirement destination where many pre-Medicare retirees and snowbirds from colder states need standalone dental coverage that Medicare doesn't provide.
Under the ACA, dental care is an essential health benefit for children but not for adults. Washington County has 22 Marketplace health plans from three insurers for 2026 (Molina Healthcare, Select Health and one other), and none of them has to cover adult dental care.
Where to Use Your Dental Plan in Washington County
No website can reliably tell you which dentists in Washington County take a particular plan. Offices join and leave networks, so search the plan’s provider directory by the dentist’s name and ZIP code, then call the office to confirm.
The first choice is PPO or HMO. A dental HMO usually has the lower premium but only pays network dentists, often through an assigned office; a dental PPO still pays something out of network, which matters if your current dentist isn’t in any HMO near Washington County.

A dental plan pays dentists, not emergency rooms. If a tooth infection or a facial injury takes you to an emergency department, that bill goes to your health insurance. The only hospital with emergency services that Medicare lists in Washington County is St. George Regional Hospital, so check that your health plan includes it.

SecureDental PLUS pricing is set by tier, network and state, not age: the Premium tier on the National Options PPO 30 network came to $44.63 a month for one adult in a Texas quote in August 2026. Add a $7.95 monthly association fee and a $10 one-time fee where the plan is issued through its sponsoring association.
For the self-employed, dental premiums usually qualify for the self-employed health insurance deduction. It lowers income tax, not self-employment tax, is capped at the business’s net profit, and is lost for any month you could have joined an employer-subsidized plan. The bigger line in that deduction is usually health cover: Washington County’s 2026 benchmark Silver plan runs $905 a month for a 40-year-old before subsidies.
A stand-alone dental plan is an excepted benefit: it isn’t minimum essential coverage and doesn’t replace health insurance.
