Dental Coverage in Collin County
Collin County has been one of the fastest-growing and highest-income counties in Texas for two decades, anchoring the Dallas metro's northern suburbs with corporate relocations to Plano, Frisco, and McKinney — many self-employed entrepreneurs and startup employees here buy dental and vision coverage on their own.
Adult dental care isn’t an essential health benefit under the ACA, so a health plan in Texas doesn’t have to include it. Collin County has 127 Marketplace health plans from nine insurers for 2026 (Ambetter from Superior HealthPlan, Baylor Scott and White Health Plan and 7 others), and none of them has to cover adult dental care.
In-Network Dental Care Near Plano
No website can reliably tell you which dentists in Collin County take a particular plan. Offices join and leave networks, so search the plan’s provider directory by the dentist’s name and ZIP code, then call the office to confirm.
Most stand-alone dental plans are PPOs or HMOs. A dental PPO pays toward any licensed dentist but pays more in-network; a dental HMO usually costs less but only pays its own network dentists. If you want to keep a dentist you already see in Collin County, a PPO that includes the office is normally the better fit.
Dental Plan Structure for Texas Residents
To put numbers on it, SecureDental PLUS, a plan Daniel places, pays basic care at 60% to 80% and major care at up to 70% depending on the tier, up to a yearly maximum of $1,000 to $2,000, and can be issued on the Careington, DenteMax or National Options PPO 30 network. The dental insurance guide sets out each tier.
If you already need a crown, the waiting period matters more than the premium. HealthCare.gov notes that separate dental plans can have waiting periods for adults, and SecureDental PLUS, for example, waits 12 months for major care and 1 month for basic care.
Serious dental emergencies, such as spreading infection or a broken jaw, are usually treated in a hospital and billed to health insurance rather than the dental plan. Medicare’s hospital directory lists 13 hospitals with emergency services in Collin County, including Baylor Scott & White Medical Center Plano, Baylor Scott & White Medical Center – Centennial, Baylor Scott & White the Heart Hospital Plano and 10 others.
How Collin County Residents Enroll in Dental Coverage
Buying dental through HealthCare.gov means buying a health plan in the same application, so the choice in Collin County starts with its 127 health plans from Ambetter from Superior HealthPlan, Baylor Scott and White Health Plan and 7 others. Off the Marketplace, a stand-alone dental plan isn’t tied to Open Enrollment at all. Use the ZIP code form below and Daniel will send you the dental options for your address.
Price depends mainly on the tier and network; on SecureDental PLUS it doesn’t depend on age. One adult on its Premium tier with the National Options PPO 30 network was quoted $44.63 a month in Texas in August 2026, and lower tiers cost less. Where the plan is issued through its sponsoring association, a $7.95 monthly fee and a $10 one-time fee are added, and prices vary by state.
For the self-employed, dental premiums usually qualify for the self-employed health insurance deduction. It lowers income tax, not self-employment tax, is capped at the business’s net profit, and is lost for any month you could have joined an employer-subsidized plan. For scale, the 2026 benchmark Silver health plan for a 40-year-old in Collin County is $671 a month before any subsidy.
A stand-alone dental plan is an excepted benefit: it isn’t minimum essential coverage and doesn’t replace health insurance.
